President Carol Lytch commissioned the Community Task Force in November 2018 in response to a student concern about the name of the seminary's library. Its 12-month charge included investigating the legacy of Philip Schaff, providing a teaching moment about Philip Schaff, and listening to current students' views on the library's name.

The Community Task Force produced a report and recommendations for President Lytch. She endorsed the recommendations and sent one actionable item to the seminary's Board of Trustees: to remove Philip Schaff's name from the library building and library department. The Board of Trustees approved this action in February 2020.

This site makes available the teaching moment about Philip Schaff, the final report of the task force, a minority opinion from the task force, and announcements to the community following the conclusion of the task force's work. Use the links on the right to view these artifacts.
